WHAT IS A MOSQUITOS?

Photo showing the need for mosquito controlMosquitoes are small, midge-like flies which compose the family Culicidae. Although a few species are harmless or even useful to humanity, the females of most species are ectoparasites, whose tube-like mouthparts (called a proboscis) pierce the hosts' skin to suck the blood. The word "mosquito" (formed by mosca and diminutive ito) is from the Spanish for "little fly". Thousands of species feed on the blood of various kinds of hosts, mainly vertebrates, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and even some kinds of fish. Some mosquitoes also attack invertebrates, mainly arthropods. Though the loss of blood is seldom of any importance to the victim, the saliva of the mosquito often causes an irritating rash that is a serious nuisance. Much more serious though, are the roles of many species of mosquitoes as vectors of diseases. In passing from host to host, some transmit extremely harmful infections such as malaria, yellow fever, west nile virus, dengue

Nowadays, mosquito-borne illnesses continue to emerge and take millions of lives across the globe. While harmless species do exist, most mosquitos feed on humans, pets and livestock and transmit life-threatening parasitic or viral diseases. Mosquitoes are everywhere.  They buzz around and we suffer from itchy mosquito bites all year round. But wait!  There is no reason to suffer this discomfort.  Read on to learn how to get rid of mosquitoes in the backyard.

Avoiding mosquito bites is quite difficult when hundreds of mosquitoes are flying around our yard. Vector control and spraying are the best ways to get rid of mosquitoes and prevent mosquito-borne Illnesses.

 What is Vector Control?

No_mosquitoVector control is the most effective way to get rid of mosquitos. Mosquitoes are what is called a ‘vector agent’ – that is, something that transmits various harmful parasites and viruses.  These parasites and viruses can cause diseases in people and pets.  Eradication of mosquito-borne Illnesses has been fairly successful in many countries through vector control programs, but vector control programs alone won’t protect your backyard. Vector control programs simply include elimination of mosquito breeding areas.  Bottom line, this means getting rid of standing water in and around your yard so the mosquitoes can’t breed.  This is the most effective way to control mosquitoes in the backyard.

Don’t leave pots, tires, or really anything that can collect water in your backyard.  With a bit of diligence, you can save yourselves from mosquito bites.

So you’ve tried getting rid of all the standing water in your backyard and you still have mosquitoes?  Time to call in the professionals.  Barrier spraying your yard is an effective way to rid your backyard of mosquitoes.
